Larry A. Van Sant, President and CEO

Van Sant, President Larry Van Sant remembers when his father Hanford Van Sant started his Mount Airy plumbing and heating business in 1945 with three employees. In those days, service was the company´s staple. Then, requests came to plumb a house, or a well to be installed or repaired, or for a boiler to be installed. "Dad paid himself $16 a week, and that was if he earned enough to pay his employees, who were paid first." When Larry Van Sant joined the business in 1978, there were 10 employees, mainly in plumbing and hydronic boiler work. Today, Larry is king to 135 plumbing/HVAC professionals and 15 office personnel Van Sant employs. The staff works day-to-day according to a business philosophy the Van Sant family has relied upon for years. The company has changed its name to Van Sant to reflect the added lines Larry has added: A greater HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) and service environment, and working with a larger volume of builders of new homes and condominiums.

Hanford A. Van Sant, Founder

Born and raised in Mt. Airy, Maryland, the late Mr. Hanford A. Van Sant dreamt of having a business of his own. In 1945, those dreams came true with the beginning of his own plumbing business based in Mt. Airy, Maryland. Hiring two employees, Mr. Van Sant set out to provide plumbing services. Through much dedication and sacrifice, Mr. Van Sant paved the way for a highly successful and professional organization. Today, the family legacy continues as two additional generations lead the way, specializing not only in plumbing but now water treatment, heating, cooling, and generators, in both residential and commercial settings.
